Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum : Hall of Fame : Inductee Detail
Inductee profile and timeline.

  • | Inductees: Don Felder (guitar; born 9/21/47), Glenn Frey (born 11/6/48; guitar, vocals), Don Henley (drums, vocals; born 7/22/47), Bernie Leadon (guitar, mandolin, banjo; born 7/19/47), Randy Meisner (bass, vocals; born 3/8/47), Timothy B

  • Guitarist Glenn Frey was a rocker from Detroit who headed to Los Angeles, where he befriended fellow musicians and John David Souther

  • The album kicked off with the rousing country-rocker 'Take It Easy' (cowritten by Frey and Browne)

  • The group was rewarded with their first #1 album and a trio of hit singles: 'One of These Nights, ' 'Lyin' Eyes' and 'Take It to the Limit.' One of These Nights took six months to make, and the increasingly grueling recording process, along with the creative control exerted by chief songwriters Henley and Frey, caused Bernie Leadon to quit at the end of 1975

  • 'I knew were over about halfway through The Long Run , ' said Frey

  • 'After that, we started growing apart as collaborators and as friends.' Various members-particularly Don Henley, Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh-thereupon launched or resumed successful solo careers

    The Eagles
Reviews and ratings of some of the group's albums. By J Alroy.

  • Of course, lead vocalist Don Henley and his songwriting collaborator Glenn Frey did dominate the group throughout its existence, generating most of the hits in addition to serving as its only constant members

  • (JA) Lineup: Glenn Frey (rhythm guitar, vocals), Don Henley (drums, lead vocals), Bernie Leadon (lead guitar, pedal steel guitar, banjo), Randy Meisner (bass, vocals)

  • Henley and Frey often collaborated with country songwriter J

  • wrote the sleep-inducing 'Nightingale, ' but he also collaborated with Frey on 'Take It Easy'; and the quality country song 'Train Leaves Here This Morning' was co-authored by Leadon and former Byrd

  • His unpredictable nature comes across on a ballad that despite being crafty and clever, is just as hokey as anything else the Eagles ever did ('Pretty Maids All In A Row') - and Henley/Frey are just as guilty, with the aptly named 'Wasted Time, ' marred by a superfluous, made-for-the-movies orchestral coda, and 'The Last Resort, ' which doesn't deserve its 7-minute running time

Review and photographs for the concert.

  • While I admire Henley's work extensively (arguably, he is the most successful Eagle flying solo), it was Glenn Frey's You belong to the City that was the most inspired song of the evening

  • Frey's vocals didn't bother to hit the high spots, but certain parts were very well filled in by bassist Timothy B

  • The vocals weren't very well done either, especially with regards to Frey (maybe he was just reaching out in new directions)

  • Then I read the Smoking Gun's exposé, six pages disputing almost everything Frey writes about

  • Police reports, court records, interviews with law enforcement personnel, and other sources have put the lie to many key sections of Frey's book

  • The 36-year-old author, these documents and interviews show, wholly fabricated or wildly embellished details of his purported criminal career, jail terms, and status as an outlaw 'wanted in three states.' In additon to these rap sheet creations, Frey also invented a role for himself in a deadly train accident that cost the lives of two female high school students

  • In what may be his book's most crass flight from reality, Frey remarkably appropriates and manipulates details of the incident so he can falsely portray himself as the tragedy's third victim

The Straight Dope: What does 'colitas' mean in 'Hotel California'?

  • See "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave." This comes from the published comments of Glenn Frey, one of the coauthors

  • Henley and Frey, the word `colitas' was translated for them by their Mexican-American road manager as 'little buds.' You have obviously already done the necessary extrapolation
